- Independence Day may also be appropriately acknowledged in the Homily, Universal Prayer, and closing hymn during the liturgy.

- In July in the United States, the observance of Natural Family Planning Week takes place beginning on the Sunday before July 25 and ending on the following Saturday.
World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly
- In 2021, Pope Francis established the celebration of the World Day for Grandparents and Elderly on the fourth Sunday of July, near the liturgical memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus (July 26).
- Pope Francis has chosen a line from Psalm 71 -- "Do not cast me off in my old age" -- as the theme for the 2024 celebration of the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly.

Saints Martha, Mary and Lazarus (Memorial)
- The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments expanded the Memorial of St. Martha to become the Memorial of Saints Martha, Mary and Lazarus.
- The Gospel for this memorial is proper (Lectionary no. 607). The first reading may be taken from the weekday, the reading found at the link below, or from the Common of Holy Men and Women, nos-737-742.
- The interim mass formularies in English and Spanish are found here.

This portion of our monthly newsletter will focus on various aspects of the Liturgy as they pertain to Liturgical Music. In this month’s newsletter, we will take a look at the Gloria in Excelsis as part of a series on the Parts of the Mass.
THE GLORIA IN EXCELSIS
The Gloria in Excelsis (Glory to God in the highest) is a most ancient and venerable hymn by which the Church, gathered in the Holy Spirit, glorifies and entreats God the Father and the Son. The text of this hymn may not be replaced by any other. It is intoned by the Priest or, if appropriate, by a cantor or by the choir; but it is sung either by everyone together, or by the people alternately with the choir, or by the choir alone. If not sung, it is to be recited either by everybody together or by two choirs responding one to the other (antiphonally).
It is sung or said on Sundays outside Advent and Lent, and also on Solemnities and Feasts, Ritual Masses (Weddings, Confirmations, etc…) and at particular celebrations of a more solemn character (GIRM, No. 53).

You are invited to a potentially life-changing experience! On September 28, 2024, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels Conference Center, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will host Rescue Live! with ACTSXXIX.
Rescue Live! is an amazing opportunity for three things, hopefully, to happen: first, to be overwhelmed by the power of the Gospel; second, to surrender our whole lives to Jesus in faith; and third, to be mobilized for mission, because we were born for these days in which we are living. We are not alive by chance; God chose us to be alive for this very time.
This experience is for anybody and everybody—for people who have never been inside a church, for people who have left the church, and for people who go to church. Come as you are! The day will include powerful preaching, praise and
worship, and warm hospitality.

Rescue Live! will help us understand again (or for the first time) the answers to four big questions: Why is there something rather than nothing? Why is everything so obviously messed up? What, if anything, has God done about it? And if he has done anything about it, then how should I respond?

On May 9, 2024, Pope Francis released the Bull of Indiction Spes non confundit (“Hope does not disappoint”) announcing the Ordinary Jubilee Year of 2025.
The Jubilee will begin in Rome on the vigil of the Lord’s Nativity, December 24, 2024, and in local dioceses on Holy Family Sunday, December 29.
It will conclude in local dioceses the following Holy Family Sunday, December 28, 2025, and in Rome on the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, January 6, 2026.
FDLC News & Updates
The Archdiocese of Cincinnati has developed a program appropriately called “Together.” Used frequently since their churches were re-opened in 2021, it continues to be a helpful resource and has now been updated for use during the Eucharistic Revival, particularly this summer during the “Bread of Life” discourse, July 28-August 25. In these weeks we “interrupt” the Gospel of Mark with readings from the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John.
Five sessions include:

- Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist
- Sunday: Day of the Lord
- Obligation: Law and Love
- [Assembly] Presence: Physical vs. Virtual
