Month of the Holy Souls in Purgatory
During November, a "Book of Remembrance" may be used and placed near the sanctuary to inscribe the names of their loves ones who have passed on and would be remembered in prayer during this month.
November 1, 2025 (Saturday)
All Saints Day
Solemnity but NOT a holyday of obligation this year
- Funeral Masses are permitted.
- Ritual Mass not permitted (Weddings, Quinceañeras, etc.).
- Liturgical Color: White
- Gloria is recited or sung.
- Creed is said.
- Solemn Blessing #18 may be used.
- On Saturday evening, any normally scheduled anticipated Masses should be for Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed (All Souls' Day).
- If the parish has any relics of saints, they can be carried in the opening procession and placed in an area where parishioners can venerate them after Mass.
- Consider chanting the Litany of Saints for the opening procession. You can add the patron saint and saints that adorn the church or featured in the windows or different saints from the various ethnic groups of the parish. - When November 2 falls on a Sunday, the Mass celebrated is that of the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed
- Liturgical Color: White, Black, or Violet/Purple may be used.
- Ritual Mass not permitted (Weddings, Quinceañeras, etc.).
- Gloria is omitted.
- Creed is said.
- Any of the 5 prefaces for the Dead may be used.
- Solemn Blessing #20 Celebrations for the Dead may be used.
- See Book of Blessings, Chapter 57 "Order for Visiting a Cemetery on All Souls' Day, Memorial Day, or on the Anniversary of Death or Burial."
- Parishes may display a Book of the Names of the Dead, in which parishioners may write the names of their loved ones.

- That God may welcome into the light of his face all who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, let us pray to the Lord.

- Any readings from Lectionary for Mass (LM) #943-947 may be used.

- For the “Blessing of Food on Thanksgiving Day,” see Book of Blessings Ch. 38.
- Individuals or families may bring food to Mass to be blessed for their Thanksgiving dinner, or to be distributed to the poor. The blessing may take place outside Mass.

- No Vigil Mass for the Immaculate Conception on Sunday, Dec. 7. All Masses for Dec. 7 will be celebrated as the 2nd Sunday of Advent.
- Funeral Mass not permitted
- Ritual Mass not permitted
Funeral Masses
- The Funeral Mass is not permitted on solemnities of obligation, on Holy Thursday and the Easter Triduum, and on the Sundays of Advent, Lent, and the Easter season (Order of Christian Funerals, no. 178).
- The Funeral Liturgy Outside the Mass may be used on these days.
